1. Lutherans believe I God, the Holy Trinity, One God in three Persons—Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
2. Lutherans believe that Jesus Christ is the true revelation of god; He is the Word of God, revealing both judgment and mercy, law and gospel.
Law: The law shows us that we are sinners and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinfulness, and drives us to seek God’s mercy in Christ.
Gospel: The promise of God that offers salvation to all who believe in Jesus Christ.
3. Lutherans believe that we are saved only by the grace of God through faith in Christ who gave himself for us.
4. Lutherans believe that the Bible is the written Word of God, and is the only norm for what we teach and how we live.
5. Lutherans accept the historical creeds-the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed-as true declaration of the faith of the church.
6. Lutherans hold that the Unaltered Augsburg confession is a true witness to the Gospel, and that other writings, such as the Apology of the Augsburg confession, the Small and Large Catechism are further valid interpretations of the faith of the church.
7. Lutherans believe that the Sacrament of Baptism and the Sacrament of Holy Communion are God-given means of grace.
8. Lutherans continue the historical structures of Christian worship as they have developed in the life of the church.
9. Lutherans believe that the church is a “priesthood of all believers,” that is, through faith in Christ we have free and direct access to God and are responsible for the ministry of the church. Although for the sake or order there are ordained ministers, pastors or priests, all the people of God are ministers and priest, as we read in 1 Peter 2-9. “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, god’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
10. Lutherans believe that we are part of the universal Christian church and are to be in fellowship with other denominations who share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
"As Lutherans we whole heartedly echo the words of Paul in Ephesians 2:8-10, " For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in Advance for us to do."
